First Ever “Green Leader” Award Presented at 2012 AADOM Conference

The EDA and AADOM recognize dental practice manager’s eco-friendly initiatives with new award

The Eco-Dentistry Association (EDA) and the American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM) have awarded the first ever “Green Leader” Award to Angie Sanchez, Practice Manager of Waxahachie Family Dentistry, for her outstanding leadership in inspiring her team to reduce waste and pollution, conserve energy, water and money, and incorporate a wellness-based and high-tech approach in their dental practice.

The award was created as part of the Green Leader Initiative, a collaboration between the EDA and AADOM to educate dental office managers around the country about easy-to-implement strategies that reduce their environmental footprint and support their practices in achieving greater financial success. The initiative aims to empower practice managers to lead their teams in becoming part of dentistry’s green future, and was made possible by a generous grant from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.

Angie Sanchez, a member of both the EDA and AADOM, was presented with the award in recognition of her extraordinary leadership which inspired her whole team to get involved in “greening” all areas of their practice. “I’m so proud to be the first recipient of this prestigious award. It’s gratifying to know that we are making a difference in the lives of people we know and in the lives of people we don't. Helping my practice become a gold certified eco-friendly office through the EDA’s GreenDOC™ program and winning this award are the highlights of my dental career,” says Angie, who started her dental career as a chair side assistant. A tree has also been planted in Angie’s honor, removing around 50 pounds of pollution from the atmosphere and replacing it with life-giving oxygen.

“We’re all inspired by Angie’s hard work and persistence in enlisting the active participation of her team and doctors,” says EDA Co-Founder Ina Pockrass. “It’s not easy to convince others to make changes, but her enthusiasm and passion for the environment are contagious.” AADOM Founder Heather Colicchio adds, “We’re fortunate to have someone like Angie as a member of our organization. She is an invaluable asset for other office managers who are interested in making their practices more earth-friendly, but aren’t sure where to start. ”
