Q:  What type of practice do you work in?
A:  General Dentistry

Q: What is your title?
A:  Practice Administrator

Q:  How long have you been with this practice?
A:
 12 years

Q:  What are some of the duties you are responsible for within your practice?
A:   To be truthful, my responsibilities are endless like many of you out there. They include: all aspects of HR, overseeing 21 staff members and 3 doctors, managing payroll, overseeing employee benefits, administer patient billing statements, case presentation (larger cases), motivating staff to serve our patients better, implementing and executing all marketing strategies, maintaining production spreadsheets for all providers, collections, keeping track of new patients per provider, managing 3 different businesses owned by the doctors, overseeing, equipment and supply purchases, balancing bank statements, managing all aspects of the practice’s office expenses, maintaining Quickbooks, making sure that the office flow is running smoothly throughout the day…..and my personal favorites: changing light bulbs, plunging toilets, and answering a million questions a day by a million people. Basically I am a problem solver, thinking quickly on my feet and I love it!

Q:  What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
A:  Actually it is the daily interactions with the entire staff, doctors, and our patients. This is really not a “job” to me, it is my second home. We strive to make our patients feel the same way…like this is their home. I feel like I have brought a “family” feel to our practice that our patients actually comment on, because they can’t believe how happy everyone is here. I get my passion from seeing how our entire team interacts with our patients. I pride myself on how we provide modern technology, outstanding care, and a friendly atmosphere, while maintaining professionalism. It is very apparent that our staff love their patients and careers, and it all starts at the top, with our doctors!!!!

Q:  What do you see as some of the benefits of membership to AADOM?
A:
Well, where do I begin? The biggest thing that AADOM brings to me is the networking, especially since we started a chapter here in Raleigh 3 years ago. The members of our chapter feel like we are a team; we can discuss all types of things that go on in our practices and all of us understand the daily management of a dental practice. We all pick each others’ brains. I love love love the annual AADOM conference. If you have never been….it’s a must to put on your professional bucket list. I get so much out of these conferences and I love meeting so many different people from all over the United States. It’s a “Comradery,” or “Tribe” feeling you get at this conference. I bring home many different services that are offered by the sponsors with the hope of implementing into our practice. Why this year alone we added Illumitrac, Weave, eDossea, Lighthouse 360, and Birdeye!!!! My goal is to bring at least 2-3 things back to my office, but this year I happen to love all of these services.

Q:  What other services would you like to see AADOM provide for dental office managers?
A:
I would love to have even more educational goals to reach. Besides getting my FAADOM, I wish we could go further,…go to another level!!!! My doctors love that I have my FAADOM and love that I am so involved with our local Chapter. I wish somehow that AADOM could reach out to all dentists in the country and let them know how valuable it is for their managers to become involved with AADOM. It makes Administrative staff, as a whole, more passionate about their careers. I know it has done this for me and my administrative team.

Q:  Have you ever attended an AADOM conference?
A:
 Yes

Q:  Can you tell us about your experience?
A:
I love the annual conference from the beginning to the end. It is something that every manager must put on your professional bucket list. Every year I have learned more that the year before. It makes you a better manager.

Q:  Are you planning to attend AADOM18?
A:
  YES I wouldn’t miss it!

Q:  Are you a Fellow or are you pursuing Fellowship?
A:
Yes, I have my FAADOM and am proud of it!

Q:  What practice management software do you use?
A:
Eaglesoft

Q:  What company do you order the majority of your dental supplies from?
A:
Patterson Dental

Q:  Do you or your practice support any charitable organizations?
A:
Yes, we have been involved with “Freedom Day USA” for the past 5 years. We open up the 2nd Thursday of October up every year and we give free dental care to Veterans, Active Military and their families. This year we did $32,000 worth of dentistry in one day!!!! We have 3 dentists, 6 hygienist, 7 assistants, and 6 administrative staffers all pitch in for a wonderful day!! Our motto is: “You served us so we serve you!”.
We also have a food drive for an entire month that involves our patients and staff. We collect food for “Urban Ministries Pantry” here in the Raleigh, NC area. The entire staff works in the Pantry and fill their shelves with all the food from our drive.
We do various other things… but these two projects are the biggest that we do.

Q:  What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of work?
A:
I love to read, exercise, garden, bake, golf, travel, cheer on my Kansas Jayhawks Basketball team, and my favorite thing, play with my 4 grandbabies (all 3 and under)!!
