Q:  What type of practice do you work in?
A:  Oral Surgery

Q: What is your title?
A:  Practice Manager

Q:  How long have you been with this practice?
A:
 8 years

Q:  What are some of the duties you are responsible for within your practice?
A:  Managing a three physician practice with 7 op rooms and 20 employees, there are many hats worn throughout the office. I oversee the human resources department, Accounts receivable, credentialing, budgeting etc. Other responsibilities include, staying up to date with the latest state laws/regulations, and the latest state of the art technology. Most important, making sure my employees are trained and up to date with HIPAA/OSHA and their continuing education.
I started working at the practice in 2010 as a dental assistant. After additional training, I quickly advanced to practice manager. As a practice manager it is good to be well rounded and help out where you are needed in the practice, knowing the ins and outs of the practice.

Q:  What is the most rewarding aspect of your career?
A:  Knowing I made a difference in a patient’s life by making sure my employees and physicians give the highest quality of patient care. The practice is like your second child. I’ve enjoyed watching the growth of the practice and being part of it. I am proud to say, I hold myself to the highest standard of patient care.

Q:  What do you see as some of the benefits of membership to AADOM?
A:
Networking with other dental offices both nationally and locally. Being an office manager can be a lonely job at times. Going to AADOM conferences gives you a sense of belonging. I also enjoy being the founder and president of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of AADOM. Allowing others in this area to come together and learn to grow in the dental/medical field is very rewarding.

Q:  What other services would you like to see AADOM provide for dental office managers?
A:
Providing further training and education to office managers. I enjoy being a part of AADOM and having my FAADOM. I feel like it is a huge accomplishment and urge others to do the same. I also enjoy going to the conferences to gain information to bring back to my practice. I would like to provide further training and education for my employees to conduct during team meetings and off site training.

Q:  Have you ever attended an AADOM conference?
A:
Yes

Q:  Can you tell us about your experience?
A:
My first conference I attended was held in Nashville, TN in 2015. At this conference, I was able to help connect with other dental office managers and find my tribe! I realized that I was not alone in the field, and had a huge support system all across the country. In 2017, I attended my second conference, where I graduated with my FAADOM. This past 2018 conference, held in San Antonio, TX allowed me to share my AADOM experiences with not only my employees, but other chapter members. I was so excited to learn with other chapter presidents how to better educate our dental office managers in our area by having a local chapter. I founded the Tennessee Valley Chapter in 2017, and so far we have 15 members! I was super excited to come back to the chapter after the conference and share the experiences and knowledge from the conference.

Q:  Do you plan to attend AADOM19?
A:
Yes!

Q:  Are you a Fellow or are you pursuing Fellowship?
A:
Yes! I was a 2017 Inductee!

Q:  What practice management software do you use?
A:
DSN-OMS-Exec

Q:  What company do you order the majority of your dental supplies from?
A:
Patterson Dental

Q:  Do you or your practice support any charitable organizations?
A:
Each year, our practice supports a dental/medical mission to Honduras. I first attended in 2012, and six years later, we still have two of our doctors and assistants go the volunteer. In fall of 2017, our a few employees from our practice attended the Alzheimer’s Run to Remember. I enjoyed having the change to support this organization as well as spend time with my family and co-workers.

Q:  What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of work?
A:
Outside of work, I have enjoyed spending time with my family. In spring of 2018, my husband and I adopted two sisters. It has been such a blessing having two daughters. Not only am I a “boss” mom as my oldest calls me, I am now a “cheer” mom, and “soccer” mom. The best part about all this, is being a “mom.” My whole life, it seems to have been spent on furthering my education and my career. I am glad to now spend it now with my family. We enjoy evening bike rides on our local greenway, boating on the lake, and attending our local church. My personal hobbies include, reading, blogging, and traveling.
