From Office Management to Regional Leadership
When Melissa Floyd first entered dentistry, she had no idea where the journey would take her.
She started as a dental assistant, learning on the job before cross training at the front desk and eventually becoming an office manager. While she enjoyed the people she worked with, she knew something was missing.
“I wasn’t miserable because I hated the practice,” Melissa shared. “I just wasn’t fulfilled.”
Like many dental office managers, Melissa found herself wondering if there was something more beyond the role she was in every day.
Discovering AADOM
That perspective shifted when she discovered AADOM.
Attending her first AADOM Conference opened her eyes to new possibilities. She found education, mentorship, and a community of leaders who had already walked the path she hoped to follow. More importantly, she realized her career didn’t have to stop at managing a single practice.

Career Growth and Leadership Today
Today, Melissa serves as Regional Manager and CFO for Magnolia Smiles, overseeing four dental practices with plans to expand to seven locations.
Her days are now focused on mentoring teams, developing leaders, and helping practices grow and succeed at scale. While the responsibility is significant, so is the fulfillment.
“I go to bed every night completely exhausted, but 100% fulfilled,” she said.
Lessons from AADOM
One of the biggest lessons Melissa has learned through AADOM is the importance of surrounding yourself with people who have already accomplished what you’re working toward.
Connecting with experienced leaders has given her the confidence to keep dreaming bigger and continue growing professionally. Through education, conferences, and community support, she gained both practical tools and long-term vision for her career.

With more than 25 years of experience in dentistry, her career has spanned nearly every area of the practice — from dental assisting and front office operations to office management, leadership, and multi-practice oversight.
Throughout her leadership career, Melissa has implemented systems for collections, negotiated insurance fee schedules, and evaluated operational expenses to help drive growth and operational efficiency, contributing to a nearly 10% increase in EBITDA during her time with Magnolia Smiles.
Melissa is passionate about servant leadership, team development, and helping dental professionals build strong cultures and sustainable systems.
