Journey to DAADOM — AADOM’s Diplomate Distinction Program
The journey to becoming a DAADOM is not just a professional milestone but a transformative experience that opens doors to new opportunities and recognition in the industry.
This highest distinction, awarded by the American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM), signifies a high commitment to excellence, professionalism, and expertise. It’s a path that allows dental office managers to stand out in their field and reap the benefits of their hard work and dedication.
Dental office managers must possess robust knowledge and experience in dental practice management. This encompasses a deep understanding of various dental office operations, such as scheduling, patient relations, staff management, billing, and insurance. As a dental office manager, you should have a firm grasp of these areas.
However, the field is ever-evolving. It is crucial to continually broaden your knowledge and keep abreast of the latest industry trends.
Step One
AADOM has a comprehensive three-step distinction program to help office managers achieve their higher learning goals.
Step one is the Fellowship—FAADOM. During step one, you must complete the Dale Foundation Dental Office Management Bundle, which includes Accounts Receivable, Financial Reporting, and HR Fundamentals courses.
Completing these courses is an important step. They set up the foundation for a dental office manager with the knowledge and skills necessary to master their roles.
During this first step, you must obtain 31 continuing education hours and attend at least one annual conference before being inducted.
This step was integral for me. It showed me that I have the dedication I need to further my education and improve my career. It showed the doctor I work for that I am committed to improving our practice.
Step Two
During step two, you will move into the Mastership designation—MAADOM.
Achieving MAADOM was an eye-opening experience, as this step added a new difficulty level. The required course in this step is a combined OSAP-Dale Foundation Dental Infection Prevention and Control Certificate Program.
To say this was challenging would be an understatement. The OSAP course was the most complex course I have taken. The test at the end was extremely tough. This is a serious dive into infection control at a level that most non-clinical employees never know.
You must also submit three articles to be published in AADOM sources and continue to accrue a minimum of 15 CE each year following induction.
Step Three
The final step in your journey is AADOM Diplomate—DAADOM. This momentous achievement marks your entry into an elite group of dental office managers.
Congratulations on making it this far!
During this step, you will explore HIPAA training sponsored by CEDR HR Solutions and the Leadership 3.0 educational module through AADOM. You will also be required to submit and have published four articles; three will be for AADOM publication, and one will be for another industry publication.
You’re not done yet; you will also need to complete 16 hours of community service that is dental or medical-related.
To maintain your DAADOM, you must complete at least 25 continuing education hours annually. You don’t have to stress about your CEs. AADOM’s online learning is an excellent resource.
Why You Should Strive for the DAADOM Designation
The journey to DAADOM is a testament to your dedication, continuous learning, and active involvement in the dental community.
It’s not just about the title but the personal growth and professional development you will experience. The DAADOM title recognizes your expertise and sets you apart as a leader in dental practice management.
If you are an office manager looking to take your career to the next level, embrace the road to DAADOM. The journey may be challenging, but the rewards are worth the effort. You will emerge as a more confident, knowledgeable, and respected professional in the dental industry.
