February is the month of LOVE. What does that mean for the dental office manager? Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” I managed two different dental practices over the course of twelve years. As I look back on my relationship with my team and my patients, it was packed full of some of my favorite memories. Finding the balance of managing with your heart and your head can be a challenge. As we celebrate the month of love, here are three helpful tips to help you lead with HEART!
1. Decide how personal/vulnerable you want to be with your patients and your team. I decided that being an open book worked for me, but you need to feel comfortable about how much you share about yourself in order to connect and create a bond. Business teams often lead with so much professionalism, but success truly comes when you marry that dedication with HEART. Head and heart = business-minded compassion which in turn fosters loyal relationship building.
2. How many times have you heard the saying “LOVE YOURSELF FIRST”? That is difficult for the busy practice manager because our role is to be caretakers for our patients and our work family. Set aside a few minutes each day to listen or learn about something just for YOU! A great place to do that is AADOM RADIO. Patterson Dental often brings in author and speaker Kristen Brown who gives great tips about taking care of YOU!
3. Finally, wise words from Mother Teresa. “If you judge people you have no time to love them.” Check the judgment at the door! View others through the wide lens of your heart. You just might see and feel a big difference in your day!
Happy HEART month AADOM – I LOVE YA!
