The Formula for Having the Best Team in the World
As a dental practice manager, I’ve realized our team’s important role in our success and our clinic’s vibrancy. They’re not just employees but the essence of our operations and the core of our culture.
My mantra, ‘With them everything, without them for what,’ underscores their indispensable contribution to the practice’s success. Together, we’re not just a team; we’re a force making a meaningful difference in our patients’ lives, and for that, I’m profoundly grateful.
- Do you have the Dream team you deserve?
- Is your staff 100% committed to the practice?
- Do you have leaders for each area?
- Is your team aligned with your culture?
In my practice, the answer to all these questions is a resounding ‘Yes!’ I am fortunate to have assembled The Best Team in the World, with a team fully committed to our practice’s success.
Allow me to present the formula that has worked wonders in achieving this level of excellence.
Seek Smart, Committed, and Helpful People
When building your team, prioritize finding individuals who are not only intelligent and skilled but also deeply committed and genuinely helpful. These qualities go beyond technical expertise; they speak to a person’s character and attitude towards work and colleagues.
Bright individuals bring innovation and problem-solving skills to the table, while committed team members demonstrate loyalty and dedication to the team’s goals. Additionally, helpful individuals contribute to a positive and supportive team culture where collaboration and mutual assistance are valued.
Look for Accomplices Passionate About Your Mission
To have a successful team, it’s essential to seek out accomplices who are employees and passionate allies in your mission. These individuals are driven by more than just a paycheck; the purpose and vision behind your work inspire them.
Finding team members who are genuinely passionate about your mission creates a powerful synergy that propels your organization forward.
Together, you can achieve remarkable things and make a meaningful impact in your field.
Accompany Them to Create
In promoting a creative environment, it’s crucial to delegate tasks and accompany team members in their journey to create. This involves providing guidance, support, and resources as they explore new ideas and initiatives.
Teams can unlock their full potential by cultivating a culture of creativity and innovation, where every voice is heard, and every idea is valued. Together, they can co-create solutions, overcome challenges, and achieve collective success.
By accompanying team members on their creative journey, leaders cultivate a sense of ownership, empowerment, and camaraderie that strengthens the team.
Be a Bridge for Prosperity, Development, and Growth
As a leader, it’s essential to serve as a bridge, connecting your team members to opportunities for prosperity, development, and growth. This means providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed and facilitating their journey towards personal and professional advancement.
By promoting a continuous learning and improvement culture, you empower your team members to expand their skills, broaden their horizons, and reach new heights in their careers.
As the bridge between your team and their aspirations, you guide them toward prosperity and fulfillment. You lay the way for their success through mentorship, coaching, and advocacy, ensuring that they thrive individually and collectively.
Have Middle Management Leaders in All Areas
Segmenting and having middle management leaders in all areas is a strategic approach in leadership that involves dividing an organization into distinct segments or divisions, each overseen by its own set of middle management leaders. This allows for the delegation of authority and decision-making power.
They facilitate communication, disseminate information, and provide feedback from their respective areas, cultivating transparency and alignment throughout the organization. Middle managers can gain valuable experience in leading teams, managing projects, and driving results, which prepares them for higher-level leadership positions in the future.
Make Them Part of Your Culture
Incorporating staff into your organizational culture is essential for fostering employees’ sense of belonging, ownership, and commitment. The practice culture thrives when you form your tribe with languages, codes, formats, and formulas. These elements establish unity, communication, and streamlined processes essential for success.
Making the staff an integral part of your organizational culture creates a positive and empowering work environment where employees feel valued, motivated, and committed to contributing their best to the organization’s success.
Invest in Them Without Fear
Investing in employees without fear is a powerful approach to nurturing their growth, development, and satisfaction within the organization. This can be done by providing comprehensive training programs and opportunities for skill development that empower employees to enhance their capabilities and stay up to date with current industry trends—for instance, investing in workshops, seminars, online courses, and certifications relevant to their roles.
Pairing employees with experienced mentors or coaches who can provide guidance, support, and personalized feedback is another way to invest in them. This helps them navigate their career paths, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals.
Encouraging a culture of mentorship where knowledge and expertise are shared freely among colleagues is also a form of investment. Offering opportunities for promotion, lateral moves, and special projects that challenge and stretch their skills while aligning with their interests and aspirations is also a form of investment.
Prioritizing employee well-being by promoting a healthy work-life balance and offering flexible work arrangements, such as remote work options, flexible hours, and paid time off, is also a way to invest in them.
Respecting employees’ personal time and boundaries and encouraging them to prioritize self-care is yet another form of investment. Investing in employees without fear creates a culture of trust, loyalty, and engagement where employees feel valued, motivated, and empowered to contribute their best to the organization’s success.
Fall in Love with Them and Live in Love
The notion of ‘falling in love with employees and living in love’ within an organization may sound idealistic, but it’s rooted in principles of empathy, compassion, and genuine human connection. You can embody these principles as a leader in your interactions with others.
Show empathy, kindness, and understanding towards your employees, and create a supportive and nurturing environment where everyone feels cared for and valued. Promote a positive work environment where positivity, optimism, and joy are encouraged and embraced. Create opportunities for laughter, fun, and celebration, and cultivate a sense of camaraderie and friendship among colleagues.
With these principles of love and living in love within your organization, you create a culture of warmth, kindness, and connection that nurtures the well-being and happiness of all employees.
This, in turn, leads to increased engagement, productivity, and overall satisfaction within the workplace.
Engaging with your staff using these formulas lays the foundation for a strong, cohesive team that can tackle challenges and achieve success together. In every journey toward success, there’s a driving force that propels us forward, a guiding light that leads the way. For me, that force is manifested in the incredible individuals who make up The Best Team in The World: My team at Gables Family Dental!
